The Tomb of Akbar the Great in Sikandra Agra in India is the
most visited historical monument after Taj Mahal and Agra Fort. It is the
mausoleum of Emperor Akbar a great emperor of Mughal Dynasty. Akbar got the
construction of tomb started but it was completed by his son Jahangir in 1613
A. D. Akbar started the construction of his own tomb according to Tartary Tradition
in which the construction of tomb is commenced during one’s lifetime. But,
Akbar died in between and therefore, Jahangir completed it.
Akbar wanted all his family members to be buried in the same
tomb and therefore he got forty rooms constructed in it. But only two of his
daughters Shakrul Nisha Begum and Aram Bano could be buried in the tomb. Rest
of the family members were buried wherever they died. He himself selected the
place and planned the construction of his own tomb. The whole building is
constructed of deep red sandstones and the architecture reflects great fusion
of Hindu, Islamic and Christian art. Akbar had three wives from three different
religions and therefore all three forms of art were amalgamated in the
structure. http://allaboutagra.blogspot.com/
The entrance gate right in front of the Akbar’s Tomb was of
lower height than the average height of the man so as to make him bow his head automatically
before the emperor when he enters. Visitors can notice that the entrance gate is
comparatively very lower in height as compared to the entrance gates of other
historical monuments. A false grave was also made just above the Akbar’s
original grave on roof so as to prevent visitors from putting feet on the roof
right above the original grave.
Akbar’s tomb one of the Mughal Architectural Masterpieces is
set in 48 Ha i.e. 119 acres of grounds. It is surrounded by the green gardens.
Black monkeys and dears add to the beauty of the monument. You can enjoy the
great art and soothing environment of the monument. Agra is well connected with
all the places and visitors from all over the world come to gaze the beauty of Taj
Mahal and other recognized architectures of Mughal dynasty in India.
